Everyone keeps raving about the product that is out to replace microblading–the Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brow Tint Pen. I went out to buy one to see what the hype is all about, but I couldn’t find it anywhere! It was totally sold out. I don’t know about you, but that makes me want to try it even more (though in my case, it’s to prove that there is no such thing as a microblading replacement).

What is the Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brow Tint Pen anyway?

The Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brow Tint Pen is a cosmetic product that creates hair like strokes with a multi-prong tip. It mimics microblading by supposedly creating the same types of strokes that the actual procedure would. Notice in the image how the pen creates four strokes at a time. With proper technique and pressure, just as we need in microblading, you would get the appearance of fuller eyebrows. Or so they say.It comes in four shades–blonde, soft brown, medium brown, and deep brown. This is extremely limited compared to the amount of pigment shades you can choose from when getting microbladed, but it’s a good range for the majority of people. According to Maybelline, it lasts up to 24 hours and is both smudge and transfer proof. It’s important to note that because this product creates hair-like strokes, it is not meant for those seeking ombre or powder brows (like Kim Kardashian’s). This product is meant to create a natural looking brow, a style we absolutely love here at MicroBladers.

Where the hell do you buy it?!

I went on the hunt for this product, but I literally couldn’t find it anywhere. It wasn’t in any cosmetics aisles at stores, Ulta, or Sephora. You can’t seem to buy products from the Maybelline website itself. So, I resorted to looking where almost all shoppers end up–Amazon.Surely enough, Amazon sells the Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brow Tint Pen and if you get it today, it’s even $1 off! I couldn’t get it immediately, but at least we’ll get it here in studio within two days. For non-Amazon Prime members, you unfortunately have to pay for shipping so that’s a bummer. If you don’t want to risk wasting your money, just wait for our upcoming product review!Be forewarned that there are people who are reselling the product online for twice the cost or more. Do not fall for that. Wherever you decide to purchase the product, be sure to trust the retailers and read reviews on their service.

Our Expectations

Being in the permanent makeup industry, you know we already have opinions. I mean, it was created to replace our bread and butter service. So without offering a review on a product we haven’t even tried, I can at least tell you what our expectations are in comparison to microblading.

Expected Pros:

• Changeable shade• Changeable shape• Total control over the application

Expected Cons:

• Difficulty of use with a learning curve• Requires much practice of the angle and pressure of application• Requires daily application• Time consuming Basically, we don’t believe that the time-saving convenience and beautiful artistry of microblading is replaceable by any cosmetic product. Don’t believe us on our judgements quite yet, though, because our Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brow Tint Pen should be coming in within two days. You best believe that we will have a full and detailed product review for you to back up (or maybe even change) our current opinions of it. You just have to make sure you stay tuned, and if it helps, bookmark our blog page!In the meantime, learn more about microblading here or share with us your thoughts and expectations in the comments. See you soon!
