How To Clean Makeup Brushes And Why It’s Necessary

It is extremely important for the health of your skin and/or newly microbladed eyebrows for you to clean your makeup brushes after every single use! Especially when used with product, makeup brushes are the easiest place for bacteria to grow. Neglecting their cleanliness could lead to breakouts, increased severity of acne, and even infection.If you just got any permanent makeup procedure on your face, you absolutely have to clean your makeup brushes! Even if you’re not applying makeup to the area, bacteria spreads and infections are not fun to deal with. What Cleaning Agent to Use

Many cosmetics brands and manufacturers sell makeup brush cleansers. They can come in many different forms, such as liquid or solid soap, shampoo, or a brush-off spray. Some people like to use regular soap or even the shampoo they use for their hair. There is nothing wrong with that, but I prefer not to use these cleaning agents because I can’t guarantee that my skin will not react to the products if they leave residue on my makeup brushes.For myself, I like to use a gentle facial cleanser that I know my skin does not react to. In fact, I use the same facial cleanser for my face that I use to clean my makeup brushes, which is the Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser. So they might not dry feeling extra soft or anything, but at least I am certain that there is nothing added that could cause any unexpected reactions. Even if you don’t use it as your actual facial cleanser, I suggest that you try using it as your new makeup brush cleaner. It’s cheaper and it works!

How To Get The Gunk Out

There are honestly just a few simple necessary steps to properly clean makeup brushes and tools. Aside from your cleaning agent, you just need water and paper towels. You could incorporate a makeup brush cleaning mat, which have grown in popularity, but it’s not absolutely necessary.

1. Rinse the brush in cool or warm water. DO NOT use hot water because it can melt some of the glues used to attached the bristles to the handle.
2. Add the cleaning agent to the brush and swirl the brush around your palm or cleaning mat to create a lather.
3. Once the bristles are thoroughly covered and a nice lather has formed, also wash the handle of the brush.
4. Rinse the entire brush, ensuring that the bristles no longer have any trapped soap or makeup.
5. Wipe off excess water on a towel or paper towels.
6. Air dry the brushes with the bristles facing down. This is also very important if the brushes have wooden handles. Drying the brushes with the bristles facing up can cause water to travel down into the handle and cause them to crack.

Voila! Your brushes are clean. Now when you apply your makeup, you don’t have to fear that you’re also applying bacteria to your face.
